This is a time for the students to own their religion and make connections between their faith beliefs and the world beyond the walls of the physical church. The curriculum for grades 7 and 8 is a bridge between the basic tenets of faith taught in the elementary grades and the beginning of their journey through the preparation for receiving Confirmation, the final sacrament of initiation, in the high school program.
The curriculum includes the teachings of Jesus in Grade 7 and church history in Grade 8. One teacher works with approximately 12 students every other week from Oct. thru April. The teachers use a text that allows for focused instruction within the classroom.
Service activities provide students with the opportunity to see their faith in action while carving out their place in the community. The large group activity meetings take place in the parish center, allowing students to develop a sense of belonging and the opportunity to see that being at Church can offer social time that strengthens their connection to one another, their religion and the community.
