The Ministry of the Word involves Proclaiming the Word of God (two readings) at Mass. At St. John’s, the lector also has some responsibility for introducing the Mass and often leads the Prayers of the Faithful. Training involves a meeting with the pastor to discuss the nature of the ministry and less than an hour with the coordinator to discuss format, e.g., using the microphone correctly.
Generally Lectors are scheduled for one or two masses a month, at times they find most convenient.
