You may be wondering about the Archdiocesan pastoral planning process and how it involves St. John’s.
The Archdiocese, in an effort to maximize the effectiveness of a limited number of priests, has developed a pastoral planning effort titled “Disciples in Mission” which it began to implement in 2012. This plan is not about closing parishes, it is about clergy staffing issues and evangelization. Most parishes will team with one or two other parishes to form an administrative group called a collaborative. Each parish in the collaborative will remain a parish and so retain its own canonical status and financial assets. Each parish will remain its own independent financial unit. One pastor will be assigned to each collaborative. St. John’s will become a collaborative with St. Cecilia’s in Ashland in the year 2023 as part of phase 11, the last phase of implementation. Neither St. John’s nor St. Cecilia’s will be closing.
“Disciples in Mission” has its own website for those who would like further information. We will keep you posted on any updates from the Archdiocese in regards to their planning efforts.
